We're Living Vicariously Through This Traveler's Genius Hacks for the Toughest Parts of Trailer Life
Listen, as much as letting go of most material possessions, hitting the road, and going off to places unknown, with not a neighbor in sight, sounds absolutely delightful, there are still “cons” to consider before browsing RV options on Facebook Marketplace.
You, of course, have to think about how much you’ll need to downsize before going on the road full-time, which is enough to understandably deter some. You also have to think about other things, like your budget for an RV, repairs, insurance, and travel costs.
But as diligent as someone might be, thinking through the pros and cons, TikToker Whitney of @whitnesswild has a list of cons people may not consider before traveling in real time and how she combats them.
The TikToker is currently renting land in northern Michigan, which includes water access and nearby composting options for waste. Living in her 1987 Fleetwood travel trailer, she’s spent several years living and traveling alone, and she’s come up with some unique solutions for some of the most common, if unforeseen, problems.
Though she doesn’t have main hookups for water, waste, or electricity, she’s worked around that.
Electricity - Provided By Solar Power
“I run off the sun with solar panels. The panel upfront runs all my twelve-volt needs, like my lights and my water pump.”
“The next four panels are for my hundred-and-twenty-volt batteries, which power my fridge, my hot water pump, and all of my outlets.”
Bathroom and Waste - “Honey Pot”
“Wondering how I go to the bathroom? I have a 36-gallon honey pot.”
“It hooks up directly to my waste tank, and once this bad boy fills, I just tow it over to the dump station.”
Water - A Hose?!
“For water, I run a 100-foot hose to the nearest water station.”
“It’s not free, but it is included in my rent stay here, so I’m not ‘stealing it,’ either!”
The TikToker admitted:
“There are definitely pros and cons to this lifestyle, but one of the pros is alllll of this is mine!”
“I have no neighbors this way; I have no neighbors that way; and, you guessed it, I have no neighbors that way!”
