Traveling in a Class A Motorhome with young kids: what you need to know
Ah, yes.
Traveling.
It is one of the greatest joys one can experience, especially when done in your very own motorhome.
Yet, when you have a family it can be hard to try to accommodate the needs of young children, especially when said children are of different ages. You want to make sure they’re being taken care of and are enjoying the ride, but you also want to maintain your own sanity because it is, after all, meant to be a vacation.
We want to help your family have nothing but the best experience during your next RV vacation, so we’ve put together some handy considerations and “Did You Knows?” about Class A motorhomes.
Pssst…! If you don’t have a Class A RV at this very moment but are thinking of buying one in the near future, this article is for you, too!
We’ve got you covered! Our range of safe and durable RV leveling products and accessories will make your next family getaway comfortable, not regrettable.
Here’s the good news: no more “Are We There Yets?”
There are many benefits to owning a Class A RV, particularly for a young family.
Class A motorhomes are spacious and large, which ensures your kids have plenty of space to play in while on a long roadtrip. They can also easily watch TV, play video games, and keep themselves occupied so you don’t constantly have to hear the dreaded “Are we there yet?” question.
Class A motorhomes come equipped with your own bathroom and kitchen.
There will be no need to pull over for a restroom break or to try and find the nearest fast food joint when you have everything onboard with you. The kids will be warm, comfortable, and, most importantly, fed.
Keep in mind that with kids onboard, you’ll be bringing a lot of extra stuff with you (think clothes, toys, the occasional teddy bear or two). Your Class A allows you to safely and securely store all of this extra stuff so you don’t have to lug it to and from every hotel or destination you arrive at. Your items will stay neatly tucked away onboard for the whole trip.
A few considerations to keep in mind
A Class A motorhome isn’t perfect. There are some issues you’ll have to consider when bringing children onboard with you. Here are some typical concerns Class A RV owners have:
1) Not enough seat belts.
The only seat belts available are often times on the driver’s and passenger’s seats. It can be disconcerting to be driving a vehicle without your kids safely secured in the back. The extra seat belts can sometimes be tucked away underneath cushions – you just need to pull the cushions up to access the seat belts. However, these are often seat belts that are secured around a person’s waist, rather than across his/her torso. An easy solution to put your mind at rest is to installseat belts of your own, or to purchase baby seats for your RV.
If you’re driving through the night and the kids are tucked away in bed, you can make the ride a little more comfortable (and safer) by making sure there are lots of pillows and blankets around your little ones, almost like a bit of “extra”padding for bumpy roads.
2) Be aware of cargo carrying capacity.
If you’re just purchasing a Class A RV, or are not sure about the cargo carrying capacity of your current one, ask! A growing and expanding family can create more weight, especially if they need to bring along more items. Plan for the future when buying your RV.
As with any major purchase decision, do your homework, ask around, and know your options before committing to a particular type of RV.
