I don't know that it is needed BUT it is a good if not excellent product. Well made and reasonably priced. I'll probably buy another for my motorcycle trailer. I was letting the RV trailer wiring harness get wrapped around the jack and off the ground. This product keeps things neat. I'm OCD so that is perfect. I did professionally drill and tap the RV frame to accommodate the included screws.
